Midwest Meets Manhattan

This is why I came to New York.

Let me tell you a story.

Last night at midnight, a very sleepy Bailey was about to go to bed. But, addicted to Twitter as she is, she had to stay up and Tweet a little bit with some friends.

And then, lo and behold, Ingrid Michaelson (@ingridmusic) tweeted that the first 20 people to email a certain email address with a certain subject line would get FREE ADMISSION to a secret show in NYC.

So, Bailey lit a fire underneath herself and emailed this address with this certain subject line. Within three minutes, Ingrid had tweeted that OKOKOK they had their 20 people and to stop emailing. Winners would get an email back.

Bailey waited ten minutes. Fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes. No response. Bailey was very, very bummed, as you might have seen, because she thought she had been pretty quick on the draw. THEN Ingrid posted that winners would be notified in the morning.

So Bailey woke up early just to check her Gmail, and what do you even know, she had an email saying that she was one of the first 20 and that she was invited to the show.

So Bailey left work in time to hurry her booty down to Bleecker St to the Le Poisson Rouge cocktail lounge to see the show.

And can I just say that it was absolutely amazing? She played a bunch of songs from her upcoming album, released August 25th, and it’s going to be absolutely incredible. She said the theme was that “love just isn’t enough sometimes” and that it was a very personal album. And all of the songs were just powerful and soulful and spoke to me. I think this is her album with the most depth and meaning, and it’s going to be really incredible.

Oh, and did I mention that after the show I met her and took a picture with her? Because I totally did. Excuse the “I-ran-here-from-work” hair. Fun fact, though: One thing I like about this haircut is that my hair can go wavy and it looks good now, as opposed to bedraggled and gross.

Tonight, I met Chief Webber.

Tonight, after much awkward talking and admiration and losing my marbles in front of someone I watch on TV every week and greatly admire, I asked for the autograph of James Pickens, Jr., also known as Dr. Richard Webber, Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace Hospital, of Grey’s Anatomy fame.

Tonight when I was at Chicago, he, Sara Ramirez and TR Knight came to support Chandra Wilson in her opening night as Matron “Mama” Morton.

So during intermission I took the opportunity to meet him. I kind of lost it. I love him. He was so, so very nice to me, asking me if I liked the show and how long I’d been a Grey’s fan. I barely even remember what I said other than, “I’m such a huge fan of the show!!!!!!”

Oh yeah, that’s right.

Oh hey, Empire State Building.

Today, I walked past the Empire State Building several times before I realized what it was. Cool.

I took the 1 train down to Times Square, where I then took  the 7 train over to Grand Central and then got out and walked around for a few hours. I went several cool places, my favorite being the 3-story NY flagship H&M. That may or may not have been the goal for the day. Just sayin’.

But in other notable places –

IMG_0210Look familiar, 30 Rock watchers? Yep. That’s right.

IMG_0211I call this the “I’m trying really hard not to look like a tourist taking pictures with my iPhone” shot. You’ll see more of this shooting mode later on.

IMG_0213Such as this shot. What is this? What exactly was I trying to capture here? Obviously, it was a failure and I didn’t realize it.

IMG_0214Rockefeller Plaza, from a little bit of a distance. Also known as “The Tourists: Let Me Show You Them.”

Mm. Yes. This was a fantastic store. Great sales. Unfortunately, Anthropologie, I still do not want your harem pants.

IMG_0218Um, yes please.

IMG_0219Um, yes puhleeeeeeze.

IMG_0221Cool! I want to do this. Except maybe when I have $20 to spare on an elevator. Ugh.

IMG_0223Makes you a little woozy, doesn’t it?

IMG_0224Yeah yeah 30 Rock!! Been wanting to see this since I got here.

IMG_0225And again 🙂

IMG_0226Man, 10 years ago I would’ve been flipping out over this. I loved American Girl.

IMG_0229This is the Sephora for people who enjoy optical illusions. Such as myself.

IMG_0231Ah, back to Grand Central so my poor toes can get some rest.

And when I got back, I had two nice surprises waiting for me. One, my other roommate Samie (sam-ya) is here! She’s really cool. I like her a lot.

Two, my garment rack has arrived! I finally beat it into cooperation and now my clothes are hanging so nicely on it. It looks very good. Takes a lot of the space over by the door. Oh well. It looks much more organized now.
